Frequently Asked Questions

Why can't I hear audio in the Joyful Meditations player?

There can be a number of reasons audio will not play.  We recommend checking the following:

  1. Check to see if your computer audio is muted.  Some operating systems have a master volume control and a separate volume control for each application.  Be sure that none of them are muted and the volume is turned up.  If you have powered external speakers, confirm that they are powered on.
  2. Make sure javascript is enabled
  3. Ensure you are using one of the recommended browser versions.
  4. Confirm that the necessary audio plugins are enabled for your browser.  The Joyful Meditations audio player will automatically select among a variety of available audio plugins, so if you have at least one audio plugin, you should be able to hear audio.  Most browsers come with at least one audio plugin enabled by default.  If you are using Firefox, however, you will need to install either the Windows Media Player plugin, or the Adobe Flash Player plugin before you can play audio.
  5. Check your browser's security settings.  Some browsers' security settings limit where the plugins can run.  Depending on your browser's settings, it may ask you upon each launch for permission to run the add-on or to run "protected content" before you can hear the audio.  You may be able to add to your trusted internet sites and avoid the prompt every time you launch the player.
  6. Check outgoing firewall settings.  Have a system administrator confirm that outgoing traffic from your computer can connect to ports 80, 443, and 8000.  Confirm that connections are allowed to *  If you have a network configuration that does not allow wildcard firewall rules, you can list the hosts or IP addresses explicitly.  Understand that IP addresses may change in the future.  To allow outbound connections by hostname or IP, add the following entries to your firewall's whitelist:
    • (
    • (
  7. If you are using an Apple® iPhone® or iPad®, iOS prevents autostart of streaming audio without explicit user interaction. You will need to click the PLAY button in the player in order to start the audio. When the player first opens on these systems, the PLAY button will blink to remind you to click it.
  8. Many Android-based phones and tablets do not support audio playback from within a web page.  The Joyful Meditations Player is available from Google Play for devices running Android 2.1 or greater.
